Meditation as practice for everyday thinking

“Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.”

[full quote here]

Meditation has an image problem. Everyone thinks of gurus and mountain-tops and the sound of wind chimes in a far-eastern courtyard.

But meditation is just a way of focusing your mind. That method is as applicable to your thoughts throughout your day, when you are surrounded by other people who are busy with their own lives, as it is to the time you dedicate to meditation on your own when you wake up first thing in the morning.

Even if only for a moment, try to find your own still centre of contemplation in the midst of a time of bustling distraction, and prove to yourself that you can control your own thoughts even when you are surrounded by everyone else’s.
